About this course
This 20-credit Level 7 CPD module is designed to help health and social care professionals strengthen their skills in evidence-based practice, clinical audit, service evaluation and research. Delivered by research-active allied health professionals, the module equips you with the knowledge and practical tools needed to progress both your clinical and research career.
Throughout the module, you will develop a comprehensive understanding of clinical research and governance, alongside core skills in literature searching, critical appraisal, systematic reviewing and introductory data analysis. Key topics include qualitative and quantitative research methods, epidemiology, research ethics, meta-analysis, and the practical design and delivery of clinical audits and service evaluations within NHS Trusts. With a supportive blend of face-to-face teaching and online learning, journal clubs and applied workshops, the focus is firmly on real-world skills that can be directly translated into improved clinical practice.
As a postgraduate-level qualification, this CPD module supports professional upskilling and enhances your profile for senior clinical roles, where evidence-informed practice and audit experience are essential components of Band 7+ NHS job descriptions. It can also open opportunities to contribute to research projects within or beyond the NHS and may provide a stepping stone towards further postgraduate study.
