Commonwealth Scholarships Scheme

About this award
There are two different scholarships available as part of this scheme:
Commonwealth Shared Scholarship
This award is for postgraduate taught students from low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries to study a one-year taught Masters with the University of Hull. This scholarship is available for students who are interested in studying MSc Flood Risk Management or LLM International Law (Human Rights, Conflict and Security).
Commonwealth Split-Site Scholarship
This award is for PhD candidates from low and middle-income Commonwealth countries to spend 12 months at a UK university as part of their doctoral studies in their home country. The scholarships are for study starting in the UK in September/October 2025 and are aimed at high-quality graduates whose proposed research has a developmental focus and who have the potential to deliver impact in their home countries.
To be eligible, candidates must be registered for a PhD at a university in an eligible Commonwealth country by the time their scholarship is confirmed. There must also be an institutional or departmental link between the candidate’s home university and their proposed UK university/Department.
How to apply
Applications for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for the 2025/26 academic year are now closed.
Applicants joining the university to begin their studies in September/October 2025, can expect to hear the outcome in Spring 2025. We will contact all applicants by email, and they should ensure all folders of their email accounts are monitored, including junk mail and spam folders. A scholarship offer may be withdrawn if an applicant is emailed but does not respond within a specified time.
The University of Hull takes students who apply for either of the following Commonwealth schemes:
- Taught Masters Scholarship
- PhD Scholarship (for least developed and fragile states), including split-site scholarships
