About Thomas Tomlinson
I am an Educational Developer at the University of Hull with a specialist focus on instructional design, curriculum enhancement, and the strategic use of learning technologies in higher education. My work is grounded in principles of accessibility, pedagogy-informed design, and user-centred learning experiences.
As a core member of the team delivering the university’s Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PCAP), I lead a module on reflective teaching practice and support colleagues across disciplines in developing their academic teaching. This includes teaching observations, mentoring, and aligning practice with the UK Professional Standards Framework (UKPSF).
My background in digital design and web usability informs my approach to curriculum and content development. I work closely with academic staff to evaluate and redesign modules and learning resources—whether delivered face-to-face, online, or in blended formats—to ensure they meet high standards of engagement, clarity, and inclusivity.
Recent work includes:
Advising on the use of generative AI in curriculum design and assessment.
Leading workshops on instructional design for Canvas VLE.
Conducting learning technology reviews and accessibility audits.
I am particularly interested in the future of AI in higher education, inclusive assessment design, and improving the student digital experience. I welcome collaborative opportunities that explore innovative and evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning.
