About Rebecca Chester
Rebecca graduated from the University of Hull in 2005 with a First Class Honours degree in Professional Studies in Primary Education, (with ICT). She was also awarded the title of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in January 2020.
Rebecca began working as a primary school teacher in 2005 in Hull and East Yorkshire schools before moving to the University of Hull in 2014 as a Partnership Area Tutor, developing education partnerships and supporting trainee teachers in schools. Rebecca has developed her career at the UoH and now teaches and supports students on both Early Childhood Studies and Teaching Studies (primary and secondary) degree programmes.
Rebecca leads a module on the BA Teaching Studies programme, looking closely at contemporary issues within education. This involves working closely with education experts to ensure up to date experiences are shared with students to inform their knowledge and practice. Rebecca also teaches Early Childhood Studies students on professional practice, ensuring they work successfully towards achieving the Graduate Practitioner Status, as part of their degree.
Rebecca completed her Masters degree in 2024, with research interest around the relationships between school based mentors and trainee teachers, with a focus on what enables student teachers to build a sense of belonging whilst they are on their school placement. This is of great importance to Rebecca as she is passionate about developing high quality educators who can build effective relationships and feel valued whilst making a contribution during their professional placement experience in schools and early years settings.
