About Dr Martina McClean
Dr McClean is a lawyer and legal translator trained in Britain and Germany, whose work bridges comparative public law and social justice. Her research explores migration, language and access to justice, with a particular interest in migrants’ rights and student mobility. She completed her PhD in comparative administrative justice, analysing English and German approaches to judicial review and state accountability.
Her scholarship in social justice has been published and cited by the House of Lords, reflecting its contribution to debates on rights protection and public law reform. Her current research examines Assimilated EU Law and its enforcement and interpretation for the protection of rights within contemporary UK public law
Alongside her research, she is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and was shortlisted for the 2025 Student Choice Award for her contribution to teaching and student engagement. She led the redesign of the undergraduate law programmes through module innovation, the integration of core competencies and new assessment methods. She is also involved in virtual exchange collaborations with partner universities across Europe, supporting shared teaching activities and student engagement across institutions. Beyond academia, she works with migrant communities through intercultural education initiatives that promote multilingual identity, inclusion, and active participation in community life.
