About Helen Jacques

I qualified as a registered adult nurse in 1999 at Nottingham University. I then moved back to Cleethorpes and gained experience as a staff nurse on a gynaecology surgical ward for 3 years whilst here I completed my nursing teaching and assessing qualification and became a lead nurse for the area. I trained to be a midwife in 2002, qualifying in 2003. I then worked as a community nurse for 18 months before going back to midwifery in 2005. I worked as a rotational midwife gaining experience in intrapartum, community and antenatal settings, becoming a band 6 shortly after returning. I then settled in a busy antenatal department and worked here for 8 years during which time I completed my MSc in midwifery and became deputy manager of the department. Making the move recently to work at Hull University to pursue a career in nursing/ midwifery academia I am excited about working with the next generation of nurses and midwives and passing on my experience and knowledge and love of these careers.
