THYME Bioeconomy Education Resources
Get involved by downloading our packs of resources for schools, colleges and community groups.

As part of the THYME Project, Hull's Energy and Environment Institute worked with school teachers to develop activities and lesson plans around Bioeconomy themes and concepts.
The suite of activities, including animations, teachers' resource packs, how-to films and workshop guides, are designed to be embedded into the curriculum while providing opportunities for outdoor learning. Concepts covered include sustainability and the transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources in the context of climate change.
The THYME Project was a collaborative initiative between the universities of Teesside, Hull and York to develop the regional Bioeconomy.
Accessible Animation for KS4: What is the Bioeconomy?
We've created two short animated films designed to explain concepts around the Bioeconomy, as well as wider issues around sustainability and the circular economy.
The first animation is aimed at older students from KS4 to adult. It sets out key concepts, from initial definitions, through production of raw materials and products/services, and the potential effects of a move from a make-take-dispose model, to a circular economy model.

Accessible Animation for KS2: What is the Bioeconomy?
This stop-motion animation is designed to help Primary school age children understand ideas around the circular economy and how we take, make, use and recycle materials and products. It touches on the industrial revolution, fossil fuels and the climate change crisis in a way that is accessible to young people.

THYME Education Resources
These education resources offer differentiated activities and lesson plans and are designed to make links with various subject curriculums, including geography, science, mathematics, English, citizenship and PSHE, as well as offering students an insight into potential careers in the Bioeconomy.
Created with schools
These education resources were created as part of The THYME Project, a collaboration between the Universities of Teesside, Hull and York, funded by the Connecting Capabilities Fund.
They were created following consultation workshops with teachers from a number of schools in Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

'How to' films - activities for a sustainable school or community group
These activities were co-created with ERVAS (East Riding Voluntary Action Service – Volunteen section) and the Green Influencer group at Leconfield that is funded by Ernest Cook Trust. The three 'how to' films show a community group trying out the activities and include an instructional voiceover from one of the group members:
