About the Centre for Psychological Science

The Centre conducts research across two core themes: human cognition and animal behaviour & ecology. In human cognition, studies focus on language development, social interaction, attention, memory, and learning. Research in animal behaviour explores psychological processes in non-human species, including emotion perception, risk-taking, personality, spatial memory, problem-solving, social cognition and the origins of language.

Our work is supported by a range of funders, including the ESRC, Leverhulme Trust, Royal Society of Edinburgh, John Templeton Foundation, Wild Animal Initiative, National Eczema Association, Swiss National Science Foundation, Arnold Bentley New Initiatives Fund, and the Chinese Scholarship Council.

While rooted in fundamental psychological science, our research informs areas such as mental and physical health, atypical cognition, wellbeing, and the impact of environmental change on behaviour.
