Exploring the Universe in Hull

This event took place on Wednesday 21 January 2026 and has now ended.
Celebrate ten years of discovery with the E. A. Milne Centre for Astrophysics at the University of Hull!
Join Director Dr Elke Roediger for a tour of the cutting-edge research happening in Hull — from modelling how galaxies form and evolve, to exploring the origins of the elements, to investigating signals that might hint at life beyond Earth.
Discover how our researchers use supercomputers, machine learning, and real telescope data to probe everything from stars to galaxy clusters. Then stick around for our interactive “Ask Me Anything” panel, where Milne Centre experts will tackle your biggest questions about the universe.
Middleton Hall doors open at 5:30pm
The event takes place from 6:30pm to 8:00pm
Elke’s research includes investigating clusters of galaxies, galaxy evolution and hydrodynamics. She has a range of international research experience and previous roles include Visiting Scientist at the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics.
