Bridging The Gap

Take supportive steps towards your studies at Hull

About the programme

Coming to a new country to study can be a rewarding experience, but can also feel very new and different. Bridging the Gap is a two week, on-campus orientation designed to give new international students the best start possible.

Bridging the Gap helps you transition to studying at the University of Hull through a programme of workshops and sessions around key aspects of living in the UK, the academic culture at our university and how to succeed. It also gives you opportunities to attend social events where you can relax, have fun and make new friends.

What our students say

Samuel Baiden joined the programme in 2023 before starting his main degree. In this video he shares his experiences of Bridging the Gap.

What you'll learn

  • How to study and learn independently.
  • How you'll be assessed.
  • How to think critically and reflect on your learning
  • How to access key resources.
  • How to stay safe and follow UK law.
  • How to adapt to life as a student in the UK.
  • How to make the most of your time at the University of Hull.

How you'll learn

The programme takes place on campus, allowing you to orient yourself to the university and its systems and services before your course starts.
