When does university Clearing start?
Clearing usually opens in July each year and remains available until universities have filled their remaining course places. The busiest period is around A-level Results Day in August, when many students receive their results and begin making decisions about their next steps.
When Does Clearing Start?
Clearing officially opens on Thursday 2 July 2026, although the majority of applications made through Clearing will happen from A-level results day onwards when most students receive their final grades.
Universities may update course availability throughout the Clearing period, so it's worth checking regularly if you're exploring your options.
Should I wait until Results Day?
Not necessarily. Many students begin preparing for Clearing before receiving their results by:
- Researching universities and courses
- Exploring accommodation options
- Learning about student finance
- Attending open days or campus visits
- Making a shortlist of preferred universities
Preparing in advance can help you feel more confident and ready to act once your results are available.
