What happens when I call the Clearing hotline?

Getting in touch during Clearing is simply a conversation about your options. Whether you choose to call our Clearing hotline, chat with us on WhatsApp or send us an online enquiry, our advisers are here to answer your questions, discuss your qualifications and explain what happens next. There's no pressure to accept an offer straight away, so you can take the time you need to make the right decision.

What should I have ready before I call?

Having a few key details to hand will help make your conversation as smooth as possible.

We recommend having:

  • Your exam results and qualifications
  • Your UCAS ID (if you have one)
  • Details of any university offers you're currently holding
  • The course or subject you're interested in
  • A pen and paper or somewhere to make notes
  • Any questions you'd like to ask us

Don't worry if you don't have everything available. Our team will explain what information they need and guide you through the process.

What questions will I be asked?

Every student's situation is different, but during the call we'll usually ask about:

  • Your qualifications and grades
  • The course you're interested in
  • Whether you've already applied through UCAS
  • Any offers you're currently holding
  • Any questions or concerns you have about studying at Hull

We may also discuss alternative courses if they could be a better fit for your qualifications or interests.

What happens after I get in touch?

If we're able to offer you a place, we'll explain what you need to do next to confirm your place through UCAS.

We'll also let you know about the next steps, including:

  • Accepting your offer
  • Applying for accommodation
  • Updating your student finance (if needed)
  • Preparing to enrol
  • Where to find further support and information

If we need any additional information or documents before making a decision, we'll explain exactly what we need and how to send it to us.

There's no need to feel nervous

We know that calling a university can feel daunting, especially on Results Day.

Our Clearing advisers speak to students in all kinds of situations every year. Whether you've got the grades you expected, missed your offer, changed your mind about your course or simply want to explore your options, we're here to help.

There's no such thing as a silly question, and there's no obligation to accept an offer during your call. Our aim is to help you understand your options so you can make the decision that's right for you.

Whether you choose to send a WhatsApp message or submit an online enquiry, we'll make sure you get the advice and support you need.
