What happens if my transfer request is unsuccessful?

If your transfer request is unsuccessful, it means that we were unable to offer you entry to your chosen course. This can happen for several reasons, such as limited course spaces, differences in course content, or not meeting the academic or entry requirements for that level of study.

Common reasons a transfer request may be declined

  • Course capacity: The course may already be full for that academic year.
  • Module mismatch: Your previous studies may not align closely enough with our course content to award credit transfer.
  • Academic requirements: You might not meet the required grades, qualifications, or English language level for entry to the chosen year.
  • Professional accreditation: Some courses (e.g. Nursing, Law, Engineering) have strict module requirements that limit or prevent transfers.

Your next steps

  1. Consider starting from an earlier year - If your credits don’t fully match the course structure, you may be offered a place to restart from Year 1 or enter a lower year of study. This ensures you meet all learning outcomes for your degree.
  2. Explore other courses - You can apply for a different course at Hull that better matches your completed studies. The Admissions team can help identify suitable alternatives.
  3. Continue at your current university - If transfer isn’t possible this year, you may wish to complete your current qualification or reapply for a future intake.
  4. Speak with Admissions for advice - Our Admissions team can explain why your transfer was not approved and suggest your best next steps. Send us an enquiry to start the conversation.

Important information

  • You can still apply to Hull in the future, even if your transfer request was not accepted this time.
  • Each application is assessed independently, based on your latest qualifications and course availability.

If your transfer request isn’t successful, there are still options to continue your studies or apply to Hull in the future. You could start from an earlier year, explore a different course, or reapply next year.
