What are the entry requirements for transferring to Hull?

If you’re considering transferring to the University of Hull, you’ll need to meet our academic and course entry requirements. We assess your current grades, completed credits, and how closely your course matches your chosen degree at Hull. You may also need to provide transcripts, references, and a personal statement - plus meet our English language requirements if applicable.

Places are offered based on eligibility and course availability, so check our transfer guidance here to find out if you qualify.

Academic performance

If transferring at the start or during your first year

If you’re transferring to Hull at the start or during your first year, you’ll normally need to apply through the standard UCAS application process. Your existing qualifications and any university study completed so far will be reviewed as part of your application.

If transferring after your first year

You’ll normally need a strong academic record from your current university.

Most courses expect:

  • At least a 2:2 average (55-60%) or higher in your current studies.
  • Successful completion of your first year (120 credits) for entry to Year 2, or two years (240 credits) for entry to Year 3.

We’ll review your modules and grades to make sure they align with the content of our degree programme.

Course relevancy

To transfer directly into Year 2 or 3, your current course should be closely related to the one you want to join. We’ll ask you to provide:

  • A copy of your academic transcript
  • Module details from your current university

This helps us check whether your previous learning meets the level and subject depth required for the course at Hull.

English language requirements

If English isn’t your first language, you’ll need to meet the same language requirements as other applicants. For most undergraduate courses, this means an IELTS score of 6.0–7.0 (or an equivalent qualification).

Supporting documents

When you apply, please include:

  • Your official university transcript
  • A reference from your tutor or course leader
  • A personal statement explaining why you’d like to transfer
  • For some courses, a portfolio or interview may also be required.

Availability of places

Transfers are subject to space on the course and approval by the relevant academic department.

Even if you meet all entry requirements, we can only offer a place where capacity allows.
