How many UCAS points is a foundation year worth?

A foundation year is not worth any UCAS points. Unlike A levels or BTECs, a foundation year is not a school-level qualification, so it doesn’t receive a UCAS tariff value. Instead, you use the UCAS points from your existing qualifications to apply for a foundation year.

Why doesn’t a foundation year have UCAS points?

A foundation year is part of a university-level degree programme, not a pre-university qualification. Because of this, it isn’t included in the UCAS Tariff system, which only applies to qualifications like A levels, T levels, BTECs and Access to HE Diplomas.

How do UCAS points work for foundation years?

You use UCAS points from your current qualifications when applying for the course.

Once you successfully complete the foundation year, you progress directly into Year 1 of your undergraduate degree.

You don’t need additional UCAS points after completing the foundation year.

Find courses with foundation year entry

Entry requirements vary by subject, so the best way to check how many UCAS points you need is to explore our Undergraduate Courses and look for programmes that offer a foundation year route. You’ll find the specific entry requirements and UCAS points you’ll need on each course page.
