How do I start a personal statement?
With the 2026 UCAS personal statement format, you don’t start with an introduction. Instead, you begin by answering the first UCAS question directly.
Your opening sentence should clearly state why you want to study the course. Avoid broad statements or clichés - focus on the specific interest, idea or experience that sparked your motivation.
Your answer should be clear, relevant and directly connected to the subject you’re applying for.
