This programme provides the educational framework for students to work as a nursing associate to deliver effective, safe and responsive care across a wide range of health and care settings.
Nursing associates work under the leadership of a Registered Nurse within defined parameters, in line with an agreed plan.
The responsibilities of the role include delivering high quality, person-centred care. Taking account of the perspectives and pathways of individuals, their families and/or carers to provide holistic and person-centred care, from initial assessment to evaluation of care.
Apprenticeships combine full-time work with accompanying skills development programmes, designed by employers within the sector. They allow the apprentice to gain the technical knowledge and real, practical experience required for their future career, and are delivered through a mix of learning methods. On completion of this programme, apprentices will have gained valuable experience training within their relevant area, and the competence to undertake their duties with confidence.
This programme includes campus-based classes, on the job training, portfolio building and self-directed study. Apprentices will also need to work flexibly in order to keep up with requirements for independent study and research.

A typical suite of modules could include:

Diploma Stage (level 5)


On successful completion of the apprenticeship, students will be awarded a Foundation Degree in Health and Social Care (Nursing Associate). You will be able to work as a nursing associate in a range of healthcare settings and undertake the full range of duties appropriate to the job, confidently and competently to NHS standards.
Applicants to this apprenticeship will be from different age groups, with differing backgrounds and experience. Applicants will need to be able to provide evidence that they are able to meet the academic requirements of the programme.

The deadline for applications to begin study in September is the last working day of May that year. However, we are happy to receive applications prior to this date and arrangements for interview will be made following this.
All successful applicants will be required to attend the University of Hull in June for an introduction to the programme. This is an opportunity to meet employers, teaching staff, the apprenticeship office, present students, service users and carers and gain some understanding of the expectations of the apprenticeship programme requirements prior to commencement. Further details will be given following an interview.
