BSc (Hons) Registered Midwife Degree Apprenticeship

About the course

Maternity Support Workers play a vital role in supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth and the early postnatal period.

Designed for Maternity Support Workers currently employed in a maternity setting, this Registered Midwife Degree Apprenticeship allows you to build on your experience while training to become a qualified midwife.

This programme combines academic study with hands-on clinical practice, helping you develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to deliver safe, compassionate maternity care. You’ll study topics such as anatomy and physiology, newborn health, public health, and professional midwifery practice while learning in state-of-the-art simulation facilities and real maternity settings.

With a 50/50 split between theory and clinical placements, you’ll apply your learning directly in practice while working alongside experienced midwives and multidisciplinary teams. This approach helps you build strong communication, leadership and decision-making skills essential for modern midwifery.

On successful completion, you’ll be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council and begin your career as a Band 5 Registered Midwife within your employer’s NHS Trust.
