About this Taster Session

Students studying A-level biology will know that new species can arise when genetic differences lead populations to differentiate.

But how do we know this? What are these genetic differences? How do species evolve? Scientists have used cichlid fishes as model organisms to try to understand this process, including here at Hull.

We will talk you through some of the experiments and ideas that scientists have done to understand this process, and can join your class online from our aquarium facilities so that you can see some of these experiments for yourselves.

Who’s it for?

Students 16-18 yrs in school or college interested in Biology and Evolution.

Key topics covered

  • Evolution
