About this Taster Session

The full day event, which is supported by the Ferens Educational Trust, couples our specially developed “Lighthouse” event, an optical Physics interactive event which looks at exploring optical phenomena ranging from everyday interactions such as the colour of the sky, to the origin of mirages, and further on to optical communications and the internet, and our successful Planetarium show to explore the Universe in all its grandeur. We have developed the event specifically for year 12 A-level students studying Physics, incorporating lunch, a sample lecture and a careers talk with Q&A.

The indicative programme is:

  • Lighthouse activities (2 hours)
  • Lunch and refreshments with University of Hull students to answer any questions your cohort may have
  • A sample lecture on a topic to be agreed with you (45 mins including questions)
  • The Planetarium (30 mins)
  • Careers talk with Q&A (30 mins)
