About this Taster Session
Random variables occur everywhere: flipping coins, stock market, chemical reactions etc. While the behavior of individual random variables is unpredictable, the behavior of a large number of random variables turns out to be highly predictable. In this talk, we will show how by using this fact and a little bit of Mathematics, we can explain many things in the world around us that at first sight seem unconnected, for example drunken sailors, polymers and the 2nd law of thermodynamics!
Key topics covered
- Probability and statistics
- Thermodynamics
- Properties of matter
