About this Session

What does it mean to think like a psychologist? In this fast-paced, hands-on workshop, a psychologist from the University of Hull will visit your classroom with a collection of interactive psychology experiments. From visual illusions and the Stroop effect to memory tests and reaction time challenges, students will get to experience classic psychological effects for themselves and explore how psychologists investigate the mind. Working in pairs and small groups, they’ll take on the role of both experimenter and participant, learning to describe, run, and explain simple psychological studies. Along the way, we’ll introduce key ideas from cognitive psychology and experimental design in a fun, engaging, and memorable way.

Key Topics Covered

  • Cognitive psychology (attention, memory, perception)
  • Experimental methods and design
  • Oracy and communication skills (peer debriefing)
  • Real-world applications of psychological science
  • What it’s like to study psychology at university
