About this Session
What can brainwaves tell us about the mind? In this interactive workshop, a research psychologist from the University of Hull will introduce students to the fascinating world of cognitive neuroscience and brain imaging. After a short, accessible talk on how the brain works and how psychologists use EEG (electroencephalography) to study it, students will see a live EEG demonstration using real equipment. They'll then take part in group-based activities that link directly to topics covered in the A-level syllabus, helping them understand how brain activity is measured, what it can reveal about mental processes, and how psychology uses technology to answer big questions about the mind.
Key Topics Covered
- The brain and nervous system (linked to A-level Psychology and Biology content)
- EEG and brain imaging methods
- Cognitive neuroscience as a field
- Live demonstration of EEG equipment
- Group activities to consolidate learning
