The University Leadership Team (ULT) is our senior management decision-making body. It’s here to develop and realise the vision and strategy of the University. As well as offer academic and operational leadership, and promote our mission, activities and values.
Vice-Chancellor
Professor Dave Petley joined the University in 2022, having more than 30 years’ experience across a broad range of higher education institutions.
As well as representing the University, the Vice-Chancellor is a member of the Board of the Hull and East Yorkshire Enterprise Partnership (LEP), a Director and Chair of Yorkshire Universities, a member of the Hull Business Engagement Board, and contributes through Universities UK (UUK) and other national bodies to higher education policy and practice.

Deputy Vice-Chancellor
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor is responsible for delivering a range of strategic activities for the University, regionally, nationally and internationally.
Alongside this role, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor is a member of University Council, a member of Governance and Nominations Committee and is Chair of the University’s Strategic Portfolio Board. Externally, he sits on the boards for Lampada, Hull Energy Co and Humber Energy.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise)
Leading the strategic development of research and enterprise at the University, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research and Enterprise) is responsible for promoting research excellence, advancing interdisciplinary collaborations, and ensuring the growth of a dynamic and supportive research culture. Fiona currently serves as the Deputy Chair of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2029 Research Diversity Advisory Panel, where she helps shape the future of research evaluation in the UK, with a focus on promoting inclusivity and diversity of research and impact.

Professor John Craig is Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) at the University of Hull. In this role he has key responsibilities for leading development and implementation of the university Education Strategy and enhancing the University’s portfolio of courses.

The Chief Operating Officer is responsible for key corporate functions including Marketing, Communications and Student Recruitment; People and Organisational Development; Infrastructure Services (IT and Estates); Alumni and Relations; Planning, Projects and Faculty Services; Research, Knowledge Exchange and Commercialisation Services and Global Strategy.

As Chief Finance Officer, David is responsible for group finance, financial operations, business partnering, enterprise accounting, and procurement. He is responsible for the compilation of the University wide financial budget and contributes to strategy and planning.

Chris is responsible for the good governance of the University and for assuring its compliance with all relevant legal and regulatory requirements. Chris provides strategic leadership to the University Library; Academic Services, Apprenticeships Funding and Compliance; Governance; Health and Safety and Information Compliance.

Passionate about the use of technology in overcoming barriers to learning in higher education and other contexts and an expert in educational technology, Darren leads the Faculty of Arts, Social Sciences and Education, as Executive Dean, and oversees the School of Arts and Humanities as well as the School of Criminology, Politics and Law.

As Executive Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences, Laura leads the faculty’s ongoing world-class research to tackle some of the biggest health challenges facing society, undertaken across Hull York Medical School and the Schools of Nursing and Midwifery; Paramedical, Perioperative and Advance Practice; Psychology and Social Work; and Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences.

There’s a general duty on all members of staff and Lay Members of the University to disclose at the earliest possible stage any financial or other interest they may have in any transaction, or proposed transaction, between the University and a third party.
