The Legal Advice Centre

Our Legal Advice Centre is a student-run service which is supervised by qualified members of academic staff.

Students in the legal advice centre

The Legal Advice Centre provides free, confidential and independent legal advice to the local community.

This gives Law School students the chance to gain practical experience of the legal profession.

The Centre is staffed by law students under the supervision of qualified staff. All Student Advisers are final-year law students who have been professionally trained to help with a range of issues including:

  • Consumer issues
  • Criminal/civil disputes
  • Neighbour disputes
  • Housing
  • Employment
  • Family
  • SEND*

*The Legal Advice Centre at the University of Hull is now running Project SEND Support. The project is dedicated to improving access to justice for families navigating the Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) system. Delivered by law students through the University of Hull Legal Advice Centre, and in collaboration with the Matthew Good Foundation and LawStop Education Team, the initiative provides free guidance and support to families facing SEND related queries and disputes, while equipping students with practical legal skills and a commitment to community service.

Gaining confidence through real experience

I've definitely gained confidence through doing this - just being able to go and talk to somebody you’ve never met before and lead an interview with them, has helped a lot. It’s not an experience you really get elsewhere.

- Joe Wignall, Third year law student
