The Challenge

To address the purpose and impact of legislatures, the extent to which they are multi-functional and functionally adaptable.

The Approach

By organising seminars and workshops, including the biennial Workshop of Parliamentary Scholars and Parliamentarians, and publishing the quarterly, international journal, The Journal of Legislative Studies – founded (in 1995) and edited within the Centre – and The Library of Legislative Studies, also founded and edited within the Centre.

Aims

  • To generate original research in the field of legislative studies
  • To act as a catalyst for inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional research
  • To provide an arena for researchers to share findings with parliamentarians and other practitioners
  • To publish original research in the field through articles The Journal of Legislative Studies and monographs in the Routledge Library of Legislative Studies, both edited within the Centre

The Impact

Acts as a catalyst for inter-disciplinary and inter-institutional research, provides the opportunity (through the Workshop of Parliamentary Scholars and Parliamentarians) for scholars to present research findings likely to be of practical interest to practitioners, and an outlet (through The Journal of Legislative Studies) for original research in legislative studies.
