Staff support: Support for your research

Support for your research

The Skills Team offer a wide range of support to help new or seasoned researchers.

From searching for literature, to analysing your data and writing up, we can provide help and resources.

Our support falls under three main categories: video resources (self help), workshops (for postgraduates and staff) and individual appointments. As well as these, the SkillsGuides available on our website cover many aspects of academic work that will be relevant to staff researchers.

Workshops

Many of our postgraduate workshops would be useful for staff undertaking their doctorates or early career researchers wishing to improve their skills. These include, but are not limited to, workshops on:

  • Reading techniques
  • Writing critically
  • Data collection and analysis
  • Presenting research

The full list can be found here: Postgraduate and Researcher Workshops.

Please note that these only run in trimester time and if you need support when a workshop is not scheduled, then our video workshops (above) or appointments (below) are your best options.

Appointments

Individual (or small group) appointments are available to look at specific aspects of your research. These include all those areas mentioned above, but could also include topics such as:

  • Systematic literature reviews
  • Creating specialist diagrams
  • Formatting for publication other than a UoH thesis
  • Preparing presentations, pecha kuchas, posters or infographics for conferences

We ask that staff who are students use a different booking form (see below) so that we can keep track of these separately for our records.

Staff who are also UoH students

If you are undertaking research as a doctoral student here at the University of Hull then you can book an appointment using the usual student booking system. Please use the 'request an appointment' form at the bottom of the appointments page above if there are no appointments showing as available.

Staff who are not students

If you are undertaking any research beyond or unrelated to doctoral research at this institution, then please use the alternative form here to book an appointment: Request a staff appointment.
