University of Hull listens to students to good effect – National Student Survey finds

The University of Hull has today welcomed the results of the 2025 National Student Survey, which places the University within the top 20 higher education institutions in the UK across two themes: the way it assesses and gives feedback to students and the way it values and acts upon their feedback.

The 2025 National Student Survey results show the University of Hull to be above sector averages on 19 of 27 questions and to have improved its positivity ratings for 26 of those compared to 2024.

Over 90 per cent of students were positive about the University’s IT resources and facilities, thought teaching staff supported their learning and were good at explaining things.

The annual National Student Survey commissioned by the Office for Students invites final year undergraduate students across the UK to offer opinions across seven themes including teaching and learning opportunities, access to support, resources and equipment and opportunities to give feedback to their institutions. Students have been surveyed each year since 2005. Nearly half a million are invited to take part annually.

Welcoming the 2025 results Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) Professor John Craig said:

“These impressive results reflect all the hard work, dedication, and commitment of our entire community.

“In 2024 we outperformed other UK universities across multiple categories. We’re very proud of the fact that we’re continuing that positive trajectory with further improvement across 26 of the 27 questions.

“The University of Hull is now ranked within the top 20 higher education institutions in the UK for the ways in which we assess and give feedback to our students, and for the ways in which we listen to, value and act upon their feedback.

“Our students particularly welcomed the support they receive from outstanding teaching staff, and the resources we provide to support their studies.

“We want to say thank you to all our students for their very positive feedback.

“We very much welcome these results. We will continue to work hard to make sure we listen and respond positively to our students, to provide the best possible experience and offer a fantastic living and learning environment here at Hull.”
