University moving forward with £4.5m investment to Student Union facilities

The University of Hull and the Hull University Union (HUU) have been working together to agree plans for refurbishment improvements to the Student Central building.

Student Central houses the Union’s shops, eateries, bars and social spaces as well as a number of University staff such as student services and welfare teams.

Taking feedback from students on the space and facilities they wanted, the University and HUU has jointly agreed architectural plans for the improvement project and is now preparing to go out to tender for a contractor.

The design will create the lighter and more contemporary environment students wanted. It also includes new recreation and informal study areas as well as improving the rooms available for meetings, study groups, clubs and societies.

Construction work is expected to begin in January 2020, after a contractor has been appointed, and the upgraded facilities are expected to be fully open in time for students joining the university in September 2020.
