University of Hull event supports parents and carers through university application process

A special event is set to help parents and carers support students through the University application process at the University of Hull on Wednesday 4 December.

The event will take place from 5.30-7.30pm to enable as many parents and carers to attend as possible.

From student finance to personal statements – admissions staff and student ambassadors will provide useful information and advice to help parents and carers understand more about the application process and how they can in turn provide support themselves. Live Chat is also available on the University website right now.

Parents who have already been through the experience of their sons and daughters going to University and those who are currently going through the application process will be available to share their insights.

Anja Hazebroek, Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing at the University of Hull, said:

“We want to welcome all parents and carers who are keen to find out more about the application process to attend our event. We know that the process can be stressful for students, parents and carers, so we are focusing on providing guidance and support wherever we can. Our personal statement support at our recent open days has been extremely popular with students – and we will be offering that again at our Mini Open Day on Wednesday 8 January.

“By talking to parents when they visit the University during open days, we also know that many feel overwhelmed – sometimes by the issue of student finance, which can seem complicated at first, by the thought of their child leaving home or by something practical like the different accommodation choices.

“We have decided to build on the support we are offering to college students at our open days, and through our Schools Liaison Service and live chat, by offering parents the opportunity to come and find out more and ask any questions they may have.”

The event, which will take place at the University’s Brynmor Jones Library from 5.30-7.30pm, will include a presentation and Q&A panel, information stands covering accommodation, admissions and finance, as well as access to accommodation on campus.

Parking will be available outside Middleton Hall and the Venn building at the main University entrance on Cottingham Road, with refreshments served from 5.30pm.
