About the course
Our French subject knowledge enhancement programme is designed for graduate linguists who have been offered a place on an Initial Teacher Training course.
This programme enables you to learn French to teach it confidently to Key Stage 3 (pupils aged 11-14), and potentially beyond.
Your tuition is fully funded by the DfE (Department for Education), and you’ll receive a bursary (if eligible) to help with living costs for the full twelve weeks.
If you require any further information, or would like to discuss the course, the Academic Coordinator would be pleased to hear from you on firstname.lastname@example.org
If you would like to apply for the Subject Knowledge Enhancement programme, either you or your Initial Teacher Training provider can contact the following team for a referral form:
email@example.com or 01482 466100.
What you'll study
Two week course
If you have not studied French before, or have only very basic French, you will undertake a two-week face-to-face module at the university, which will give you a firm grounding in French grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
If you have GCSE French or equivalent, you will complete two weeks of distance learning, designed to revise and refresh prior learning.
Eight week course
You will participate in eight weeks of intensive face-to-face study in Hull, led by friendly and enthusiastic teachers who have taught French in UK secondary schools before joining the university. The blend of tuition, partner and group work and independent study optimise learning and give you the opportunity to ‘test drive’ your French before using it in your own teaching.
Two week distance learning course
You will complete two weeks of distance learning – an ideal time to visit a francophone country and practise your newly acquired French.
