Faculty of Health Sciences Understanding People and Societies Continuing Professional Development Individual module Level of study Please select a level How to apply What you'll study This module aims to introduce you to the theory and knowledge underpinning the practice of Health and Social Care. There have been numerous studies over many years documenting the need for a holistic approach to health and social care, and the realisation that a high percentage of care is delivered by non-registered professionals. This has created a need for education to non-registered professionals so that they can link the theory delivered on this module to practice. The module will introduce you to definitions of health and what this means in relation to healthcare in our society. It explores the impact of non-registered health professional interventions on people within our society, and you'll consider the internal and external influences on a person's health. The module also aims to introduce the concept of social constructive health and bio determinism so that you can consider the calue of social models of care as well as medical models of care.
