What you'll study

This module will build on previous knowledge and experience of the care of the healthy neonate and the role of the midwife in promoting independent family life.

The aim of the module is to support students to identify factors that predispose the neonate to ill health, recognise deviations from normal health status, and to initiate appropriate monitoring, care and referral for the compromised or sick neonate.

The module will equip students with the knowledge and skills to underpin the full systematic physical examination of the newborn. This incorporates the Newborn and Infant Physical Examination (NIPE) screening elements (Public Health England, 2021).
