Faculty of Health Sciences Managing Health and Safety in the Workplace Continuing Professional Development Individual module Level of study Please select a level How to apply What you'll study This module has a large practical component and is adaptable to a large number of workplaces, we examine; safe practice (slips, trips and falls), patient handling, Coshh, fire safety, food safety, conflict and matters of stress. We positively encourage students to make the workplace a better place, often with small changes. The emphasis is to develop the individual for careers in health/care. The module is taught within the Centre for Clinical Skills in the Faculty of Health and Social Care. The purpose of this module is to make the caring environment, exactly that – caring! On a daily basis we dynamically risk assess situations as they arise. Making our lives and those of our patients, clients and service users a healthy, safe place to be. Is that enough? The wellbeing of staff and the people we work with (whether as our client base or as colleagues) will reap dividends if they are motivated and feel valued. The module provides the knowledge and understanding as well as the practical skills to develop the individual in health and social care. The module assessment consists of a simulated practice assessment in moving and handling of people and a short report on health and safety within an existing workplace.
