Summary

As an academic developer I have transformed the Higher Education (HE) teaching profession and shaped the institutions I have worked with to be more inclusive to staff and students from groups under-represented in HE. I extend my transformative reach by serving national and international organisations. I have worked part-time since 2006, necessary to accommodate my personal context.

I am the Head of the Teaching Excellence Academy at the University of Hull, where I work 2.5 days a week establishing the Academy (which will be launched in June 2019) and leading the Learning and Teaching Enhancement team.

I lead colleagues in the development and delivery of the Academic and Professional Development Framework to staff involved in learning, teaching and related activities across the University. The Framework includes: a Post Graduate Certificate in Academic Practice; a Higher Education Academy Fellowship scheme; initiatives to support postgraduates/researchers who teach; an annual conference and summer programme, and a suite of workshops. I also lead a Programme Directors’ Network. We aim to support scholarship of teaching and learning led, data-informed, technology facilitated pedagogic practice. The Academy includes a team of learning technologists, data managers and teaching enhancement advisors.

I serve on the international Staff and Educational Developers Association (SEDA) Executive; Papers Committee; Scholarship and Research Committee and the editorial board of the journal ‘Innovation in Education and Teaching International’; I am on the editorial board of the HE Scholarship Framework.
