Summary

Gregory Smithers holds a PhD in American history from the University of California, Davis. He specializes in Indigenous history, environmental history, and settler colonial histories since the late eighteenth century. He is the author of numerous books and articles, and writes for popular audiences in outlets such as the New York Times, the Atlantic, USA Today, and Slate. As a member of the Treatied Spaces Research Cluster at the University of Hull, Professor Smithers is working on research entitled "Native Ecologies: A Deep History of Climate Change," for which he has received a British Academy Global Professorship.
