Summary

After more than 20 years as a registered learning disability nurse locally, Debbie was seconded part-time to the faculty as a lecturer practitioner in 2001, joining as a full-time lecturer in 2004. Although she trained in a long-stay mental handicap hospital, most of her NHS experience is in community residential and domiciliary support of adults and children with learning disabilities and their families. Debbie became a specialist practitioner in community learning disability nursing in 1998 and completed an MSc Health Professional Studies (Lecturer) in 2008. Article, 'Education and training for learning disability practice: key messages from contemporary literature', was the most downloaded article in the Journal of Intellectual Disabilities in 2010.
