Summary
Professor Hughes is currently the head of engineering and leads the building energy and sustainable technologies research group. He has secured external income in excess of £10M from EPSRC, Innovate UK, British Council and internationally a further £2M from the Qatar National Research Fund. His current funded research includes grants awards from:
ESPRC Decarbonised Heating and Cooling Call 1, EPSRC Supergen Thermal Energy Storage Challenge 2, Innovate UK Energy Catalyst Round 8 and the BEIS Thermal Efficiency Innovation Fund.
Professor Hughes has served as the Editor-In-Chief of the International Journal of Ventilation (Taylor & Francis) since 2015, and awards panel member and past president of the Whitworth Society (IMechE). He is a Chartered Engineer and Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers and a Whitworth Senior Scholar (Wh.S.Sch).
During his career to date he has been awarded the IMechE Visionary Award for Outstanding Leadership, New Civil Engineer Award for Research Team of the Year and a second award for the Best Carbon Reduction Project, WSSET Innovation Award for Low Carbon Technologies and Future Cities.
