Supporting your studies

As an undergraduate or postgraduate taught student, you’ll be allocated a Personal Supervisor when you join the University.

If you’re a postgraduate research student joining us, you’ll be supported by two supervisors through your research programme.

Your supervisor(s) will be a member of staff from your subject who’ll be your consistent point of contact and support throughout your studies. They’re there for you to offer any help, support or guidance that you need, whenever you need it.

They may contact you before your first day on campus and you’ll meet them as part of Welcome Week or during your induction. You’ll continue to have regular meetings throughout the trimesters and years you study here.

If you’re a postgraduate research student then you need to make contact with your supervisor as soon as possible to arrange your initial meeting.

If you’re not sure who your supervisor is, you can find out from the 'MyStudies' page of your MyHull portal.

Laptops and IT equipment

As you know, it’s important you have the right equipment to study. You’ll need:

A laptop with webcam and audio functions.
An internet connection (either WIFI or cable). Free WIFI up to 100Mbps is included in all our on-campus accommodation.

Although the majority of teaching will be in person on campus, lectures and many other teaching activities will also be captured digitally and available on demand. So we recommend having a comfortable place to study should any online learning be required for your course.

Borrow a laptop from the library

You can borrow a laptop, or pre-book an open access PC or study space in the Brynmor Jones Library.
