7 things to do in Hull that you have to try Thinking of coming to study with us? There's more to university than just your degree. See what else you can get up to while you're here.

1. Get yourself down to The Sesh

Like live music? Then you have to get yourself down to Hull's biggest local music night, The Sesh.

Every Tuesday night, you can catch a showcase of some of the best emerging talent from the region, and beyond.

Some of the bands, like Rei Gyaamie (pictured), are even made up of Hull students and alumni.

The atmosphere is absolutely electric, and you'd be hard pressed to find a better weekly night out.

2. Stave off boredom at The Board Room

If you fancy trying something a bit different with your friends, you should give The Board Room a try, Hull's very own board game café.

Book a table, and lose yourselves for hours in a vast collection of board and card games, while drinks and snacks are brought to your table. It's a brilliant way to spend an afternoon.

And what's more, it's situated on Newland Avenue, right in the heart of Hull's student quarter, so it's really easy to get to.

3. Experience the fun of the fair

When the temperature starts to drop, and the leaves start to fall from the trees, it can mean only one thing – nope, it's not the start of Autumn, it means that Hull Fair is just around the corner.

The travelling fair has been coming to Hull for over 700 years (no, that's not a typo), with the first fair taking place in 1278. Now, it's one of Europe's largest.

There are literally hundreds of rides and stalls to try, so whether you're a thrill-seeker hunting out the biggest and fastest rides, or prefer to take in the immense views from the top of the ferris wheel, you're bound to have a great night.

4. Grab a bite to eat at Dope Burger

There's no shortage of great places to eat in Hull. On Newland Avenue and Princes Avenue alone, there are dozens of restaurants and cafés to choose from, all within walking distance of the University.

Go a little further afield, and there are even more places to choose from, and one of the best has to be Dope Burger.

We'd try to describe the food there, but to be honest, they pretty much do what they say on the tin. Expect massive, mouthwatering burgers aplenty at this award winning takeaway.

5. Have a night out in Asylum

There are plenty of great places for a night out in Hull – call us biased, but we reckon ours is one of the best.

Asylum is our on-campus nightclub. There's a weekly club night, The Tower, every Wednesday that's always popular with students.

Throughout the year, there are loads of huge artists to go and watch – some of our recent visitors include Sigala, Chase & Status, The Pigeon Detectives, Example, Primal Scream, Sub Focus, and Razorlight.

And Asylum is currently the home of Bongo's Bingo in Hull, too, which we reckon one or two of you may have heard of...

6. So many festivals, so little time

Hull loves a good festival. Like, really loves them.

One of the biggest and best is Freedom Festival. Every September, the festival team put on a cracking programme of spectacular free events.

Some of them will make you think. Some will make you cry. Some will make your jaw hit the floor. From street theatre, to acrobatics, dance, circus and so much more, there really is something for everyone, and it's a great opportunity to try something new.

7. Immerse yourself at The Deep

Ask anyone in Hull about what the best things to do are, and most of them will put The Deep right at the top of their list.

It's one of the UK's largest aquariums, and it's spectacular.

From puffer fish to Gentoo penguins, there's so much to take in that you'll probably want to make more than one visit. Lucky for you, then, that once you've paid to go once, you get free entry for a whole year. Bargain.

It really is the crown jewel in Hull's tourist attractions, and for good reason.

And that's just a small selection of all of the things you can get up to in Hull.

These are just some of our favourites, but there are plenty more for you to get stuck into during your three (or more!) years here.
