Film and Media Studies

Hull is one of few universities to incorporate digital and computer game design alongside film and TV. The structure of our degrees allows you to tailor your course to suit your own interests and specialisms. Film and Media is part of the School of The Arts, which sits in the Faculty of Arts, Cultures and Education

COURSES

Our film studies courses combine theory with the practical side of film-making. If media studies is more your thing, you can master your creative production skills while exporting the relationship between media and society.

Foundation year

Gives you the skills and knowledge for entry on to a degree if you don’t quite meet the academic entry requirements.

Study abroad

We have partnerships with universities across the globe. Depending on your course, you can study for one trimester, or a full year, in another country.

Industrial placement

Work in industry as part of your degree. Depending on your course, you can spend part of your degree on placement. See your course page for specific details.

Integrated Masters

Some courses combine undergraduate and postgraduate study. The integrated Masters year is an extra year after your standard degree.

Undergraduate

  • BA (Hons) Film Studies

    Available with:

    Ideal for those passionate about film, and want to develop a deeper understanding of its history and culture, alongside practical filmmaking experience.

  • BA (Hons) Creative Writing and Film Studies

    Develop your skills in writing and experimenting in different genres. You'll also look at film as art, history, culture, entertainment and commerce.

  • BA (Hons) Drama and Film Studies

    Gain unique, hands-on experience. A wide range of modules and facilities help bring your ideas to life on stage and screen.

  • BA (Hons) English and Film Studies

    Study English from a range of genres and periods, while also looking at film as art, history, culture, entertainment and commerce.

  • BA (Hons) Media Studies

    Available with:

    Master creative production skills and critically explore the economic, cultural and historical relationship between media and society.

Our connections with the region’s film and media industry give you opportunities to get invaluable work experience while studying. And our media studies course is a superb launch pad if you want a career in the media industries: from advertising or marketing to production.

Graduate careers include: TV and film production, charity and community media,  public relations, costume design, marketing, and crewing and events management.
