Professor Alan Speight is PVC (Education) at the University of Hull. His remit covers all aspects of learning and teaching, quality assurance and enhancement, student recruitment and admissions, domestic and international partnerships, and internationalisation.
He joined the University of Hull in May 2015, having been Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Student Experience) at Swansea University from 2008-2015, and previously Dean of the Faculty of Business, Economics and Law from 2003-2008.
Professor Speight's strong belief is in a student learning experience that is delivered through a modern and flexible curriculum using innovative technology-enhanced learning methods and teaching excellence, and where the student voice is at the heart of decisions and practices designed in active partnership which shape the educational experience.
He has served on the committees of a range of external national bodies and agencies, including as a board member and non-executive Director of the QAA, and as a member of the UCAS Council. He has also served on a range of sector body review groups including, for example, the HEFCE-HEA Standards and External Examining Review Steering Group contributing to the HEFCE Quality Assessment Review.
