A registered nurse and senior lecturer, Mary's contributions to the University include leadership and management of programmes, modules and staff through positions held internally and externally.

As Director for the Centre of End of Life Studies, Mary encourages cross-disciplinary research/practice collaboration within the end of life field.

As Phi Mu Governance Chair of the Sigma Theta Tau International Society of Nursing, she promotes leadership, scholarship and research for nursing advancement.

Her lasting legacy to nursing at the University of Hull was the development of the clinical skills unit, as its lead clinical skills developer, organiser and curriculum writer.
