Dr Augustyn is a Senior Lecturer at Hull University Business School. She is a member of the Marketing and Business Strategy Subject Group and the Regional and International Business Research Group.
Her research interests include strategic management, organisational performance, quality management, and tourism management. She has published widely in these areas.
Dr Augustyn has experience of acting as a principal investigator and research project leader of high impact externally-funded research projects.
Dr Augustyn is the Book Reviews Editor for Tourism Analysis: An Interdisciplinary Tourism and Hospitality Journal. She is also a member of the Editorial Review Board of Tourism Review and a member of the Editorial Board of Advances in Hospitality and Leisure.
Dr Augustyn is a member of the Strategic Management Society (USA), the British Academy of Management (UK), and the International Association of Scientific Experts in Tourism AIEST (Switzerland).
Dr Augustyn also has industrial and commercial experience, gained prior to becoming an academic, in a number of international companies.

Dr Marcjanna Augustyn has been conducting original research within areas of strategic management, organizational performance and competitive advantage. She is particularly interested in studying direct and indirect effects of various management strategies and systems on organizational performance and competitive advantage in private, public and non-profit organizations from the resource based view perspective and from the perspective of the evolving theory of complementarities in organizations. She currently examines effects of quality management, innovation management, activity-based costing management, and talent management on organizational performance and competitive advantage. Much of her research has been carried out in the context of tourism and hospitality industries and in the context of SMEs.
