Kate O’Connell was appointed to the post of HR Director at the University of Hull on 1 May 2015.
A graduate of the University of Edinburgh with an MA (Hons) in Linguistics, Kate is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and has further post graduate qualifications in Strategic Management and Leadership Coaching.
Kate started her HR career in manufacturing and has held a number of senior HR roles within the NHS, Local Government and the Civil Service.
She moved into general management as interim Director of Apprentice Learner Services for the National Apprenticeship Service in Yorkshire and the Humber in 2010 and during this time she developed a good understanding of both the FE and HE challenges and opportunities across the region and specifically the impact of educational experience on employability.
Prior to joining the University, Kate held the position of Head of HR and Organisational Development at the Skills Funding Agency. She led the people strand of the agency reform programme including organisational design, development, employee relations and change leadership.
Kate joined the University in October 2014 as Deputy HR Director and after a short time in that role was successfully appointed to the position of HR Director on the retirement of her predecessor.
