Dr Springer is a lecturer in computer science and virtual reality expert specialising in interactive computer-graphics.

From 2008 to 2011, he was a senior research scientist at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the Virtual Reality Group headed by Dr Carolina Cruz-Neira. Previously, he was a research assistant with the Virtual Reality Systems Group headed by Dr Bernd Froehlich at the Media Faculty of Bauhaus University Weimar. From 1999 to 2001, he was part of the VR research group at the National Research Institute for Information Technology (now part of the Fraunhofer Society) in Bonn / Birlinghofen.

Research Interests

Interactive Computer Graphics: Methods for image generation at interactive and real-time frame rates, user-driven scene importance, graphics hardware supported phenomena simulation, shader-program accumulation, domain-specific languages, artificial/augmented/mixed/virtual realities

Asynchronous Computing: Effective use of hybrid CPU/GPU architectures, stream/vector/multi-core computation paradigms and their practical use, building and using framework-level software systems

Visual Perception: Human visual system based image generation, display systems, sensor input for image guidance, “beautiful” images
