Summary
Heather is a Registered Nurse and has worked in the NHS since 2005. She trained at the University of Sheffield and has worked across all aspects of the primary, acute and secondary care. She worked initially within the hospital setting for many years, undertaking many senior roles, within a dual high dependency and intensive critical care unit. She has also untaken roles such as lead practice nurse for a successful medical centre and continues to support clinical practice and business development in primary care. Heather enjoys teaching and being able to share knowledge and experience with students and staff.
Heather is passionate about learning, teaching developments and enhancing patient care. Heather’s interests link to biomedical science, advanced clinical practice skills and managing complex patient care both nationally and globally. Heather has supported on a number of initiatives in clinical practice such as EWS now NEWS and productive ward. As well as delivering education and conferences relating to Genomic and personalised medicine in nursing.
Heather works across all of the faculty of health’s core business and associated programmes including BSc nursing, Apprenticeship Nursing and our international programmes linked to Yangzhou University Nursing. She continues to lead and deliver modules such as care and management of the acutely ill adult, fundamental nursing skills, preparing for registration, leading and managing care medicine management, key skills to name but a few. Heather has been in academia since 2017 initially as a lecturer at the University of Lincoln of where, she mainly focused on the development of trainee nursing associates and work-based learners, working in partnership with students, employers, commissioners and health and social care practioners. She was one of the first work-based learning lecturers to support the HEE test pilot cohort of nursing associates who qualified in January 2019.
Heather continues to support all learners and has a vast array of experience as well as her teaching qualification she is accredited by the FHEA. Heather continues to develop to Programme Director of BSc Nursing Grimsby and support our practice partners with student initiatives for placements in the Southbank.
