Summary

Deborah has been an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) since 1985 and joined the University of Hull in 2003. She is passionate about education and generating the future workforce to meet the needs of the modern NHS.

On a national level she was integral to the curricula development of the ODP Diploma in Higher Education and then chaired the national review of this curriculum; producing the BSc (hons) Operating Department Practitioner curriculum in conjunction with the College of Operating Department Practitioners.

Deborah has a real passion around widening participation and getting students from different backgrounds and with alternative qualifications in to Professional Health programmes

As a Trustee I ensure the Trust promotes the advancement of liberal, professional and technological education and the diffusion and extension of arts, sciences and learning in the local area of East Yorkshire, North and North-East Lincolnshire: and in particular to assist the University of Hull in the objective of providing further education to the national and international community, for which it was founded.

Board member of the Engineering UTC Northern Lincolnshire which is a mixed University Technical College in Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire, England. It opened in September 2015 as Humber UTC and caters for students aged 13 to 19. The school's site is in Scunthorpe town centre.

Co-Chair the North East and Yorkshire Allied Heal Professions Board

The North East and Yorkshire bring together the 4 ICS AHP Councils and AHP Facilities as one Board to explore and promote AHP professions in the Health and Social Care sector

Chair of the St Mary's Medical Health and Social Care Operational Board

It is a 2-year training, development and enrichment programme that runs alongside your sixth form studies and is delivered in partnership with the local NHS providers of health care and social care as well as higher education providers Hull University and Hull and York Medical School. It has been established to ensure that our students are successful when applying for the next step towards any career in health or social care, and in some cases, it may even lead directly to a job. With this initiative, we aim to increase the NHS & Social Care workforce, particularly in the local area.

The Council of Deans of Health represents the UK’s university faculties engaged in education and/or research for nursing, midwifery and the allied health professions. At any one time our 104 members will be educating around 200,000 current and future health professionals and will carry out research that improves the population’s health and wellbeing. Our members are based in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, the Channel Islands and Gibraltar. We operate as a charity, registered across the UK. Operating as a multi-professional organisation at the heart of policy and political debate, we aim to lead policy at national and UK level, promoting the essential contribution of our members to health and social care. We are committed to working in partnership, strengthening membership engagement and intelligence gathering to influence policy UK-wide for high quality education and research.
