Faculty of Science and Engineering

The faculty unites leading academics with state-of-the-art facilities. We deliver teaching and research across a broad range of science and engineering areas.

The faculty comprises seven departments covering 13 subject areas. Our interdisciplinary research centres are confronting some of the biggest challenges facing the world today.

The faculty is home to research centres specialising in astrophysics and advanced materials. We also have dedicated institutes focusing on estuarine and coastal environments, and aquatic resource management and conservation.

Department of Physics and Mathematics

Our physics and astrophysics courses encourage you to explore the world from the sub-atomic scale to the cosmological scale under the guidance of internationally recognised experts.

Mathematics at Hull is taught by renowned academics. Their specialisms include algebra, analysis, geometry, fluid dynamics, mathematical physics, probability and statistics.

Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry

The University is the birthplace of one of the most important innovations in modern times – liquid crystal displays. Today, our students are still inspired by pioneering thinking, state-of-the-art facilities and research-led teaching. In fact, you might be taught by members of the team who turned LCD into a reality.

Department of Biological and Marine Sciences

We are at the forefront of biological and environmental research. From tackling climate change to pioneering the use of environmental DNA, our researchers are helping to protect and enhance the world we live in.

Choosing Hull opens up a world of opportunity. Our students experience horizon-expanding field trips to far-flung parts of the globe. And closer to home, our botanical gardens offer a stunning location for teaching and field work exercises.
