Poems are amazing things, they tell us how your mind sings. By stanza, by sentence, by word, by letter. Please show us you can do better.

Submission guidelines

  • To enter you must be a current student registered on an undergraduate or postgraduate course at the University of Hull or the Hull York Medical School. (University of Hull employees can also apply provided that they are also registered as a current student.)
  • Poems should be about the theme of CHANGE.
  • Entries must be submitted as a Microsoft Word Document or PDF file under the name [Poem Title - Student Number].
  • Entries are judged anonymously. Please include your Student Number on the entry but do not include your name except on the entry form.
  • Poems cannot exceed more than two sides of A4 or 40 lines in length.
  • Text should be a minimum of 12 point.
  • All entries must be in English.
  • The closing date for the competition is 1st November 2018.
  • Entrants will be informed of the outcome of the competition by 7th December 2018.

  • Entries not meeting the submission guidelines will not be judged.
  • Entries must be the original work of the person entering.
  • Entries must be previously unpublished, either online or in print.
  • The judge's decision is final. 
  • Entrants retain copyright for the poems submitted, however, by entering you are granting the University of Hull the right to publish and/or broadcast the work.
  • By entering the competition you are giving the University Library the right to use your details for the purposes of administering the competition only.
  • For winning entries we would ask that in any subsequent publication, the University of Hull is mentioned as first publisher.
